The new livery showcases a Union Flag-inspired colour scheme to represent the UK flag and will be applied on locomotives, at railway stations, and across its website and app.

Interestingly, the logo is the well-known twin-arrow logo historically used by the national rail network and first introduced in the mid-20th century for British Rail.

The Implementation Timeline

The introduction of the new look, which was developed internally, is expected to happen gradually.

Travellers are expected to start noticing the freshly-liveried services across the network from the coming spring.

During the month of December, the visuals will be displayed at key railway stations, like Glasgow Central.

A Path to Nationalisation

The proposed law, which will pave the way the formation of Great British Railways, is presently progressing through the legislative process.

The administration has stated it is bringing back into public ownership the railways so the system is "run by the people, operating for the public, not for corporate interests."

The new body will bring the operation of train services and infrastructure under one umbrella body.

The government has said it will merge seventeen various entities and "cut through the notorious red tape and lack of accountability that continues to plague the railways."

App-Based Services and Existing Public Control

The launch of GBR will also involve a comprehensive app, which will allow users to view train times and book journeys free from additional fees.

Accessibility users will also be have the option to use the application to book support.

Multiple train companies had already been nationalised under the previous government, such as Northern.

There are now 7 operating companies now in public control, covering about a third of passenger trips.

In the last twelve months, South Western Railway have been brought into public ownership, with further franchises anticipated to be added in the coming years.

Official and Sector Response

"The new design isn't just a new logo," said the Transport Secretary. It signifies "a new railway, casting off the problems of the previous system and dedicated completely on delivering a reliable service for the public."

Rail figures have acknowledged the focus to enhancing services.

"We will continue to collaborate with industry partners to support a smooth transition to GBR," a representative added.
