Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a "massive" and continuing attack targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area close to the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any destruction is uncertain and the American officials has yet to issue a statement.
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to American military installations - said they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That preceding assault - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted locations linked to the the regime, with US President Donald Trump calling on the Iranian people to revolt against the government.
In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses dealt with the missiles with great effectiveness and shot down a several projectiles," the statement continued.
It said debris landed in a residential area in the capital, resulting in some structural damage and fatalities.
The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
