The episode begins with the MI5 agents locked down during a training exercise about a potential terror incident, monitored by two government representatives. As the situation develops, it appears that there really has been an attack and a chemical agent deployed. The anxiety increases as messages indicate a catastrophe taking place outside, and gets worse when the leader seems contaminated, and the government agents endeavor to depart, forcing Matthew Macfadyen’s character to opt for either shooting them or permitting their exit and endangering the sterile MI5 environment. As this is Spooks, it is unsurprising which one he chooses.
Threads had minimal funding but one of the most frightening programmes I have ever watched due to its harsh realism and bleak government data. Viewed it recently following the initial broadcast; I often attended the bar in Sheffield from the programme which emphasised the reality and the offhand factual official statements which was broadcast. Continuing to be utterly horrifying decades on.
The first season finale of Severance ranks highly as a tense chapter. I remained for the whole show actually sitting tensely, pushing alongside Dylan to hold the switches that allowed the Innies to remain active, while screaming at the Innies to reveal their realities. The concluding高潮 – “she’s alive!” – was like an eruption.
The fifth episode of Industry’s third season caused my heart to pound. I needed to stop and stand and exit the space repeatedly because of the sheer scale of the wanton self-destruction I observed. Rishi Ramdani is in deep shit at work and home – up to his eyeballs in debt from unscrupulous lenders because of his compulsive gambling, engaging in dangerous ventures on a wager involving sterling which could lose his company millions. Inevitably, he starts a gaming binge, uses copious drugs and alcohol and experiences wins and losses, is brutally attacked. Each instance you believe things cannot decline more, it worsens. There is a chance for salvation as the installment closes yet he wastes the chance, leading to terrible outcomes during the season’s final episode. Definitely needed a lie-down after that!
Peep Show is not inherently a tense series. Yet the installment Holiday includes such amounts of embarrassment that it will make you rise the whole episode, riddled with anxiety. It all ramps up when Jeremy and Mark realize being compelled to falsify about the canine they by chance collide with and later efforts to get rid of it. You subsequently use the rest of the installment wondering if it might be more awful than cremation, and it is possible!
Nothing I’ve watched has been more intense than the first time I watched the season two finale to The West Wing. The show opens with the fallout of the demise (in a car crash) of the president’s confidential aide and builds to a peak with a situation in Haiti, and the repercussions of the secrecy of the president’s MS diagnosis, along with affirmation of his plan to run for another term. Excellent TV. Unequaled.
The opening of the British series Bodyguard, with the hero aboard a train with his young son, ranks among the most gripping episodes I’ve seen. He observes a woman in Islamic attire going into the loo and senses something is wrong. The explosive disposal specialists are summoned, enter the train, and try to persuade the woman to remove her explosive vest. Tension escalates to a nearly intolerable level, until yes, the vest is diffused.
Buffy enters her house to find her mum has passed away of natural causes, which is the rarest form of demise in this paranormal series. The episode has no background music, a sullen tone, and we see the episode through the experience of Buffy’s shock of discovering her mother.
The final scene of the final episode of the series was extremely nerve-wracking. And for those who saw it during its initial broadcast, you – at first – weren’t sure why. Tony’s adversaries, actual and perceived, were all vanquished. This seems similar to the first season’s finale, right? “Recall the minor details.” However, the vibe is oddly threatening. Almost Twin Peaks levels of terror. The family sit in a restaurant. Meadow finds a parking spot. Tony gloomily informs Carmela there’s trouble afoot with another member of his team cooperating with the officials. Meadow parks. Strange people enter the restaurant. Gaze at Tony(?) Meadow is parking. Tony puts a record on the jukebox. Meadow parks. The bell sounds, an individual enters. It cannot be Meadow, she is still parking. Tony raises his gaze. Keep going. It stops. My heart sank about 20 minutes later.
I stayed up to watch this episode at 2am. It was so intense after the establishment of antagonist Negan locating the survivors, mercilessly mocking his targets and then leaving the victim unknown (finished with an unresolved situation).
