The Celtic boss stated he did not fear the sack, claiming, “We are extremely close to things turning around,” in the wake of edging perilously close to the exit with a heavy defeat by the Ibrox side.
Celtic were ahead their oldest rivals at half-time but a disastrous second period enabled Rangers to draw level on points with the current league title holders. The former MLS manager, who was appointed in December, has now been in charge for six losses in his first eight fixtures.
“The board and I are united at the club,” said Nancy.
Questioned about his own future, the 48-year-old replied: “That’s not my focus. My focus is on discovering solutions to help my team to excel on small moments.
Celtic’s support made their feelings clear – aimed at the hierarchy – by gathering at Parkhead. The hierarchy are reportedly likely to return to the former boss, who steered the club during a caretaker period last year, if the Frenchman were sacked.
“Wins and losses [that leads to pressure]. And that’s the truth for the moment. Yet in stating that’s how it is, I am not saying that I am pessimistic. Not at all. What I mean we are really close, really, really close to turn things around.”
He continues to cling to the fact the side play well for 45 minutes at a time. For instance, were it not for wastefulness in front of goal they would have been more than 1-0 up. “The performance had merit aside from the fact that we haven’t scored more goals,” he said. “I acknowledge that we lost, but I must remain fair.
“The level we had at stages was really, really, really high. That happened. And I would not speak so positively if it was not the case. Therefore, in terms of results, I noted it's a repeating pattern. For that reason I feel a change is coming to a shift in fortunes. But for the moment: the fine margins.”
“We produced a lot of encouraging signs that we did, like today again. The issue now it’s about consistency. My message would change if it was not the case. This is why I am a big believer we’re going to be able to turn things around.”
Rangers manager refused to contemplate a championship push despite what seemed like a huge result. “Step by step, then we can really build up something here,” he said. “The faith in the squad is excellent.”
